PE71 : Techniques of EFL Learners’ Involvement in Classroom Interaction: A Qualitative Research

Abstarct: This study aimed to investigate the Iranian EFL teachers’ perceptions about the techniques of learners’ involvement in classroom interaction through the use of qualitative research. Thematic analysis was selected to discover these interactive techniques baxsed on the data collection from interview and observation. 13 Iranian teachers who are teaching in language institutes and were selected through convenience sampling. The semi-structured interviews were transcribed and analyzed baxsed on thematic analysis. The findings emerged in this study presented six categories of techniques which are: personality-related techniques, autonomy-building techniques, technology and media-related techniques, fun and game-related techniques, cooperation-related techniques, and instruction-related techniques. baxsed on the participants’ words, interactive techniques help teachers to have faster learning, more excitement, attractive challenges, more enthusiasm (both in students and teachers), healthy competition, more confidence, less fear of mistakes, and more joy in their classes. The findings of this research also bring many benefits to the EFL teachers who are teaching in institutes. It is recommended that EFL teachers experiment and learn what interactive techniques to use in their classes baxsed on learners’ characteristics. In this regard, teachers should pay attention to the gender, age, interests, and language level of students to learn and choose the best techniques.
